Feb. 10th, 2006 02:44 pmI'm trying to update this thing abit more often, so I apologise in advance for the boringness of future entries, provided that I make them, of course.
I'm settling down here in the US pretty well, I think. I have my tea, I have some British chocolate (which is easily replenishable due to the British food store downtown) and most importantly; I have my Markle. :) So I'm happy.
Lately we've been trying to do more cooking in our house, rather than living on takeout and dining out, it's working pretty well so far. Apart from the little disaster I had with the rice I was cooking to go with steak the other week. It's also far healthier for us both and a lot of the stuff we've been cooking has tasted really good. I've also been trying my hand at baking cookies, which has been fun, and they've actually turned out to be pretty nice, surprisingly. I think I'm going to try my hand at making some muffins next.
But today it's pot roast day, I've never attempted a pot roast before, but Mark is a great cook, so I can tell it's going to turn out well. I'm trying to learn all I can from him, so that I can cook things on my own, rather than asking a million questions everytime I cook something myself. To be fair, the cooker is different here to the one I had back in the UK, it was a gas cooker and stove-top, so I know how to cook some things on that, I'm just not familiar with the setting on electric cookers.
In other non-food related news, I finally got my social security card the other week, which has meant that I now have a US bank account. :) So I can start to look into getting the money I have saved in my UK bank account transfered over here. Fortunately I worked in a foreign exchange company back in the UK, so I'm hoping the fact I worked for them means they'll pull a few strings and will get me a little better rate. We also got the wedding invites, we just need to format the word document with the words we want and print them out. Although, I think I shall be calling on
chiri_chan before we print them to help us pick out a nice font for them. We also need to get the online RSVP form we're going to use set up so that it sends emails to us. But I'm pleased that we've got some stuff out of the way now.
We went out for my first Wingers experience last night, but unfortunately I had a big lunch with Mark's oldest sister at Chilli's that same day. So I wasn't up for much in the way of food and just had some soup and half a turkey BLT, instead. But there's always next time. :)
